A la Plage Via Thailand

Behold, Kamala Beach, Phuket, Thailand. Now, in my opinion, Phuket is the asshole of Thailand. It goes without saying, that if you go to Thailand, please don’t just go to Phuket. It’s an island that runs on tourism. I knew this going in, and still wanted to see for myself. I found Patong, the main drag on the island, intolerable and I couldn’t get out fast enough. It’s just not my cup of tea. (If you cup of tea is cheesy chain bars with jello shots with rampant prostitution, then you might dig it). However, I tried to make the most of my 5 days in Phuket, and did some research and found Kamala. I wouldn’t necessarily go to Kamala just to go there, but if you find yourself in Phuket for some reason, take a taxi over. It’s a white sand beach with blue water sans getting bombarded by the constant solicitation of massage/tuktuk/sex/tiger show.

Still on the Andaman side, very near by is Ko Phi Phi. The cliffs make for a gorgeously scenic beach right out of a movie. It’s a little weird though, how on the main drag there isn’t much beach, and the hotels and junk and kind of nestled up right along the beach. It’s cute if you want to just tool around in a more laid back touristy environment and stroll through a maze of shops and restaurants. It’s pricey over though.
